Are you awake?!
This morning I tried to get Sydney out of bed for about 15 minutes. While in my room getting ready I kept calling to her to wake up. Finally, hearing no response, I asked her, "Are you awake? Yes or no?". This was her response: "No!". I felt for a second that I had a teenager, not a 3-1/2 year old, in the other room.

Sydney's thoughts...
Sydney and I were snuggling this morning and she looked really sad. I asked her what she was thinking about and she replied, in a serious and sad tone, "I just want to get married." I wasn't quite sure how to respond to that one.

Our dialogue coming home the other night:
Daddy – “I can’t wait to sleep in my bed tonight”
Sydney – “I can’t wait to sleep in your bed too.”
Daddy – “No you get to sleep in your bed.”
Sydney – “But I want to sleep in your big bed.”
Daddy – “But you have your own big bed in your own big room. Don’t you want to sleep in your bed again?”
Sydney – “No. I want to sleep in your bed with mommy.”
Daddy – “Well, you have your own room honey. We can talk about this when we get home.”

Little Dancing Queen
Sydney got up on the table in our patio and was dancing to the "Hey Soul Sister" song. I think she moves better than me!

Kids
I forgot Sydney wanted to flush the toilet and after I flushed it myself she got upset and said (exact words) "you shouldn't have done that because now I am not happy!"
ah, kids.

Father's Day Party
Sydney and Alvin were together for a Father's Day Party today. Here is Alvin's summary of their afternoon:
Just got home. That was pretty fun. There were actually a bunch of parents there today. Way more than five. When they did the tie fashion show, Sydney saw me in the very beginning and started screaming Daddy in a super happy voice. She continued to scream Daddy and laugh the entire time. Everybody was laughing!
Then we went and ate lunch in the classroom and she ate very well. She ate really quickly and I should have known she had something up her sleeve. She was the first one done and she ran and grabbed a Tupperware bin and screamed “cupcake time!” Super funny again! We all went out to the playground to eat the cupcakes and I had Sydney, Evan, Colton, Rexis, Maggie, and one other girl I didn’t know all sitting on my lap eating. Sydney shared her daddy. Ahhh… so cute.
Then we made a deal. All the kids were crying when the dads were leaving so I asked her what she wanted when she got home from school. Of course she said chocolate, so I told her that if she let me go without crying that she could have chocolate when she got home. She said it’s a deal. She went and opened the door for me, gave me a kiss and a hug, and said to have a good day. Such a good little girl.

Funny Things I Say
When I was taking a bath one night I was pretending to make an "owie" on Mommy's hand better. She asked if she was going to be okay and I said, matter-of-factly, "yeah... or you're going to die." Mommy said we had to work on my doctor etiquette.
I love to listen to Mommy's iPod on the way to school. She plays a song and I tell her if I like it or not. Sometimes I tell her when I was a baby I loved that song but I don't anymore. When I find a song I like I tell her to turn it up really loud! One day Mommy got to the song "London Bridge". It starts out with "Oh S*%!" I loved the song and started pretend-snapping my fingers and saying "Oh Sit! Oh Sit! I like that song Mommy!" She turned it off quickly and I asked her to put the "Oh Sit" song back on. She told me they were saying "Ocean" like when we play at the beach with Tay Tay. Then we talked about Tay Tay and the beach and I forgot about the song. (Mommy 1, Toddler 0)
Sometimes I can't do things because I'm not an adult - so I'm working on that. I told Daddy the other day, with a serious voice, "Daddy, I'm trying really hard to be an adult."
I ran up to Daddy at school and said I didn't bite anyone today (which she usually doesn't). Daddy told me good job and I said "we should go get ice cream!"
We were driving home late one night and Syd said she had to go potty. We told her Daddy would take her. She was quiet then told us that Mommy is a lady and Daddy is a boy. We agreed and told her good job. She then again said that Mommy takes her to the bathroom. We said no. Then she laid it out for us. "Daddy is a boy, Mommy is a lady and Sydney is a lady. So Mommy takes me to the bathroom because we are ladies." We couldn't argue with that.
When camping in Yosemite I got up really early in the morning and wanted Mommy to walk around with me. While we were outside Mommy was complaining that it was so cold outside. I said "it's not that cold, Mommy."Mommy and Daddy have taken me to San Francisco several times. To Pier 39, to see Uncle BJ compete in a triathlon, to the Academy of Science. Now whenever they ask what I want to do I yell, "GO! TO! SAN FRANCISCO!" And when we play make believe, we travel to San Francisco. Or Taylor's house.
(by Mommy) When we got home from camping I told Syd to go downstairs and tell Daddy, "I'm here to make sure you're working." After I got out of the shower, she came upstairs and said, "Daddy isn't working, he's just sleeping." Then she leaned back on my bed with her arms out on it and closed her eyes and said, "Look, I'm sleeping just like Daddy".
Mommy asked me where I wanted to go for my birthday. She said, "Um.... probably San Francisco" as I put my head towards my shoulder and nodded yes. (Not surprising... see above.)
