Funny Things I Say

When I was taking a bath one night I was pretending to make an "owie" on Mommy's hand better. She asked if she was going to be okay and I said, matter-of-factly, "yeah... or you're going to die." Mommy said we had to work on my doctor etiquette.

I love to listen to Mommy's iPod on the way to school. She plays a song and I tell her if I like it or not. Sometimes I tell her when I was a baby I loved that song but I don't anymore. When I find a song I like I tell her to turn it up really loud! One day Mommy got to the song "London Bridge". It starts out with "Oh S*%!" I loved the song and started pretend-snapping my fingers and saying "Oh Sit! Oh Sit! I like that song Mommy!" She turned it off quickly and I asked her to put the "Oh Sit" song back on. She told me they were saying "Ocean" like when we play at the beach with Tay Tay. Then we talked about Tay Tay and the beach and I forgot about the song. (Mommy 1, Toddler 0)

Sometimes I can't do things because I'm not an adult - so I'm working on that. I told Daddy the other day, with a serious voice, "Daddy, I'm trying really hard to be an adult."

I ran up to Daddy at school and said I didn't bite anyone today (which she usually doesn't). Daddy told me good job and I said "we should go get ice cream!"

We were driving home late one night and Syd said she had to go potty. We told her Daddy would take her. She was quiet then told us that Mommy is a lady and Daddy is a boy. We agreed and told her good job. She then again said that Mommy takes her to the bathroom. We said no. Then she laid it out for us. "Daddy is a boy, Mommy is a lady and Sydney is a lady. So Mommy takes me to the bathroom because we are ladies." We couldn't argue with that.

When camping in Yosemite I got up really early in the morning and wanted Mommy to walk around with me. While we were outside Mommy was complaining that it was so cold outside. I said "it's not that cold, Mommy."Mommy and Daddy have taken me to San Francisco several times. To Pier 39, to see Uncle BJ compete in a triathlon, to the Academy of Science. Now whenever they ask what I want to do I yell, "GO! TO! SAN FRANCISCO!" And when we play make believe, we travel to San Francisco. Or Taylor's house.

(by Mommy) When we got home from camping I told Syd to go downstairs and tell Daddy, "I'm here to make sure you're working." After I got out of the shower, she came upstairs and said, "Daddy isn't working, he's just sleeping." Then she leaned back on my bed with her arms out on it and closed her eyes and said, "Look, I'm sleeping just like Daddy".

Mommy asked me where I wanted to go for my birthday. She said, "Um.... probably San Francisco" as I put my head towards my shoulder and nodded yes. (Not surprising... see above.)

A Few Words From Sydney

This months disciplinary lessons
Saying "whatever" is not allowed.
I have to eat all my vegetables.
Spitting when I'm mad is not allowed.

Mommy and Daddy are actually taking things away from me now when I'm bad.  No TV, no treats, no fun!  But I'm learning very fast to not throw fits and use my words.

Fashion Police

Just like mommy - walking through costco sydney pointed out two separate ladies wearing dresses and told me "her dress is so cute".

Learning Good Things At School

Sydney loves to ask for volunteers now.  For example, she'll say "who wants to read a story with me?"  And we have to raise our hand high and say "I do!".  Or if you ask her "who spilt the water?" she'll respond by raising her hand high and yelling "Not me!".  I wonder if she got this from school...

Whatever?

As we were sitting on the couch one night Sydney was speaking defiantly about getting something out of the pantry.  We both said she couldn't and Alvin said she didn't need to yell at us.  Sydney then said "Whatever" and walked to the kitchen to look at the stuff in the pantry.  Our jaws dropped open and as we looked at each other I asked Alvin if she said what I thought she said.  To confirm I asked Sydney what did she just say to us.  Her response, "I said Whatever!"  Ah.  We couldn't help ourselves - we just laughed at the situation.  Which resulted in over a week of Sydney saying "that word" at every opportunity including the wrong times such as when we tell her she can't do something or when she has to pick up her toys.

Admittedly, Alvin and I say Whatever a lot when we joke with each other or even at some not so funny moments.  Now that little Sydney says it, though, we have stopped our use of the ever-so-versitle conversation word.

Sydney, being Sydney, even started singing "the whatever song" after we told her she couldn't say the word.  She figured she could stillsing the word without getting into trouble.  The song goes to the tune of the Farmer and the Dell (as do all other narrative songs) and goes something like this:  "Wha-di-di-ev-va-er!  Wha-di-di-ev-va-er!  Wha... di... di... ev.... va... er.... Wha... di.... ev... va.... er!"

Within a week this all stop with the ever-reliable bribe.  If she went a day without saying or singing Whatever she would get something special in the morning.

And with that... Whatever to toddlers and them thinking on their quick little toes!

A Few Words From Sydney

My new thing is whispering our just mouthing all my words.  Mommy and Daddy say they can't hear me so I act like I'm yelling - but I still mouth the words.  It amuses me very much.

Mommy took me to get my toe nails painted.  I picked orange and I got a white flower on each big toe.  I kept asking Mommy the name of the lady who painted my toes.  Sue.

I went to disney on ice.  When Ursula came out while Ariel was skating I yelled "Ursula is bad!  Go away Ursual!  She's bad!"

Mommy and Daddy got me a fish!!  They asked what I wanted to name it and I said "humu humu nupu nupu ah poo" after the Hawaii State Fish.  So now we have a betta fish named "Humu" (I use his full name most of the time).

When I wake up in the morning, I go into Mommy and Daddy's room and climb into bed on Mommy's side.  She moves over and I sleep on her pillow with her.  I get a big smile on my face as I go back to sleep.

I love stickers!  I put them everywhere!!  On the tables, on Mommy and Daddy, on my cups - everywhere!

Mommy has been home on the weekends lately and we snuggle all the time in the morning.  (One morning Daddy and I let her sleep in but usually Mommy and I watch a Disney movie and snuggle.)

I love to fold all my clothes.  Even my clothes that are going in the hamper.

Mommy and Daddy took me to IKEA and the mall one day.  I took my Baby in her stroller and walked her around all day.  I had so much fun!

I got new Ariel and Tinkerbell PJs!!!  Yeah!!  I went to the Disney Store and I wanted everything in it.  If I could have, I would have done a snow angel in the middle of the store, I was so happy!

When I'm doing something I will now sing what I'm doing to "The Farmer and the Dell" song.  For example, "I'm putting on my shoes, I'm putting on my shoes, Hi Ho the Derry-O, I'm putting on my shoes!"  All the time.  And I'll sing a narration when Mommy or Daddy is doing something.  "Mommy's pouring me juice, Mommy's pouring my juice, Hi Ho the Derry-O, Mommy's pouring me juice!"

I'm cranky in the morning.  Just like Mommy.  I tell her to walk away because I'm tired.  Mornings are rough.
